NYRO Technix Inc. has released NXRAID 1.1, a new version of their software-based RAID 5 solution for Mac OS X. The new version sports new features and more.

With NXRAID installed, you can set up a RAID 5 array on your Mac using separate hard disk drive mechanisms and software. RAID 5 systems use data striping — spreading out blocks of data across multiple disks — and stripe error correction information to produce better performance than you could out of a single drive alone, with good fault tolerance as well. RAID 5 systems depend on three or more disk drives. NXRAID works with IDE, FireWire, SCSI and Fibre Channel-based hard drive systems running Mac OS X 10.2.1 and higher (both the regular desktop and Server versions).
NXRAID 1.1 now supports four-drive Xserve configurations, and will auto-degrade on the Xserve. Fibre Channel system selection is support, and GUI with authentication is now supported as well.
The new version is a free upgrade for existing NXRAID users.
If you plan to attend next week’s Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Calif., you can pick up a copy of NXRAID exclusively at the DevDepot truck — it’ll be available with a US$20 rebate.
