During his keynote presentation, Steve Jobs had one special surprise for snowboarders and skiers looking for the ultimate cold-weather gear for their iPod: a special limited edition jacket made by Burton that incorporates iPod controls on its sleeve. Burton Snowboards offered more details about the product today.
The jacket is called the Amp, and Burton bills it as “the only electronic jacket with an integrated iPod control system.” Made from GORE-TEX, the Amp works with all models of iPods. SOFTswitch technology is what makes the control possible — it’s a flexible control pad right on the arm, with controls for volume and track changing. The jacket is waterproof, seam-taped and even machine washable — once your iPod is out, of course.
An exclusive through Apple’s online store, the Burton Amp carries a retail price of US$499. Samples of the coat will be available to try on at Apple retail stores and select Burton dealers.
