MySQL AB, developer of the MySQL open source database, has announced that a MySQL binary installer in “.pkg” format (the standard for software installation on Mac OS X) will be available in February from their Web site.
MySQL is an relational database system used by Web site and businesses. The software counts over 4 million worldwide installations across multiple platforms. MySQL has been available from developer Marc Liyanage via his Web site. After a short transition period when these packages will be available from both sites, MySQL will be the sole provider of MySQL for Mac OS X .pkg binary installers, according to David Axmark, MySQL vice president of open source relations and co-founder.
The MySQL database is a relational database management system for Web site and business application development and deployment. The MySQL .pkg binaries require Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”) and Mac OS X 10.2 Server.
