SmartDisk Corp. is introducing a new line of FireWire 800 desktop hard drives that use the new, higher speed, 800 Mbit/sec FireWire standard that’s part of Apple’s PowerBooks that were announced this week.
SmartDisk FirePower drives have a 3.5-inch mechanism and a capacity of 200 GB. They operate with standard FireWire 400-equipped Macs, as well as FireWire 800 machines. They’re housed in a white case, feature a 7200-rpm mechanism with an 8-megabyte cache, and the new Oxford 922 bridge chip.
FirePower drives will be available in March through retailers and distributors, as well as on SmartDisk’s Web site.
