Macworld today announced its Macworld Best of Show Awards, which acknowledge what the company’s editorial staff feels are the most exciting hardware and software products announced at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco.

Jim Dalrymple, Editor, Online of Macworld.com and MacCentral.com said that the products released at this week’s event show the continued ingenuity and commitment of developers on the Mac. “Apple continues to innovate and lead the way for the personal computing industry,” he said.
Eligible products needed to make their public debut at Macworld Expo or be recently introduced and generating excitement on the show floor. Editors had to see products in action, although some evaluations were based on beta versions or prototypes.
The Best of Show winners are:
12″ and 17″ PowerBook G4s, the largest and smallest full-featured portable computers on the market today;
PictureTalk 4.0 Web conference software;
4th Dimension 2003 database software, with Web services and application integration;
Revolution 7.1, which provides 7.1 channel surround sound capability for Macs;
Pro Tools 6.0 for Mac OS X, the company’s audio recording, editing and mixing software;
Big Disk portable, external hard disks available in 500GB and 400GB capacities;
Data Bank 20GB pocket drive;
Squeeze 3 Compression Suite video encoding software;
AirPort Extreme high-speed wireless networking technology with speeds up to 54Mbps;
ExtendAir, a range extending antenna for the new AirPort Extreme Base Station;
MasterWriter 1.0, a songwriting software application crafted using 4D;
Unreal Tournament 2003, a first-person shooter featuring new Special Moves, weapons and maps;
6127 Printer, a color inkjet with built-in Ethernet networking and 4800 x 1200DPI output.
