Apple has racked up another major award, and is a contender for yet another.
For the third year running Apple won BETT awards at the UK IT education show. The flat panel iMac received top hardware prize in the secondary schools category. The company’s iDVD won a prize last year, while AirPort and iBook brought home prizes in 2001, according to Macworld UK .
Meanwhile, Apple is also up for a UK Designer of the Year award, as reported by BBC News. That is, the company’s designer, Jonathan Ive, is up for the award for his work on the flat panel iMac and iPod.
Oddly enough, his competitors are the designers of the “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” video game, jewelry designer Solange Azagury-Partridge, and Dutch product designer Tord Boontje for limited edition chandeliers. The nominees are up for the inaugural Designer of the Year award, launched by London’s Design Museum. The winner of the £25,000 prize will be announced in June.
