Marathon Computer, a company that makes rackmount solutions for the Mac, have introduced the Vert-X Floor Stand, an alternative to rackmounting Apple’s Xserve.
To mount an Xserve in Marathon’s Vert-X, just turn the server on its side and slip it between the Vert-X’s uprights. The Vert-X then acts as a pair of stable feet, holding the Xserve in an upright position.
Vert-X also offers expansion capabilities. Each pair of Vert-Xes has the ability to lock together with a second pair, creating uprights for two more Xserves. And you can daisy chain additional Vert-Xes to accommodate any number of Xserves — or, actually, any device that conforms to the 1U rack standard measurement. The Marathon product can also handle KVM switches, Ethernet hubs, routers, mass storage devices and more.
The US$40 Vert-X, due for release next month, boasts an injection-molded plastic construction with black satin finish. Advance orders are now being taken through Marathon dealers and through Marathon’s Online Store.
