Formac Electronic Inc. has released a software update that enables its devideon superdrive to be compatible with high-speed (4x) DVD media. The 2.1MB update is available as a free download at the company’s Web site.
The Formac developed software allows the use of 4x media for DVD-R and 2x for DVD-RW. Compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.2, the FireWire-based devideon works with G3 and G4-based systems. The recommended system is a PowerMac G4 running Mac OS X 10.1.3 or higher.
Formac’s devideon superdrive is an external DVD-R/CD-RW FireWire-based optical drive that comes bundled with Formac’s own proprietary DVD authoring software. The devideon uses the Pioneer A05 mechanism and costs US$399.
