Marble Blast is based around GarageGames’ core 3D gaming technology, called the Torque Game Engine. GarageGames has taken a different approach than many game developers or publishers by making the Torque Game Engine available for license from third-party developers for very little up-front money — only $100 — and rewards developers who bring their products to market by giving them a larger cut of the profits, too. The company thus far eschews the retail channel in favor of direct online sales.
Marble Blast is an action game in which you navigate a marble through a 3D maze populated by moving platforms and other dangerous hazards, picking up treasures along the way. The game was originally produced by GarageGames with the help of Monster Studios. It’s part of GarageGames’ Blast line, a series of games aimed at families and individuals looking for non-violent fun.
Marble Blast’s project lead Mark Frohnmayer said that this game was designed with the Mac gamer in mind. “Being able to bring our first Mac game using the Torque Game Engine only five weeks after the Windows version launched is a very exciting,” he said.
The full version of Marble Blast is available for US$14.95 and includes 72 levels. You can download a demo online as well.
