Helios has released its TCP/SLP print drivers for Mac OS X. The software provides better performance when used in conjunction with Helios’ EtherShare 3.1 file and print server software.

A component of EtherShare 3.1, the driver enables Mac OS 9 clients to communicate up to three times faster via AppleTalk PAP or Apple Remote LPR. Now available for Mac OS X, the driver supports Service Location Protocol (SLP). With SLP, users can configure their printer using the TCP/SLIP Chooser list or by IP name and address. The new driver also automates PPD installation via the Helios Print Spooler.
What’s more, the Helios driver enables users to do things they can’t through AppleTalk, according to Helios — like print from local or remote TCP/IP networks without AppleTalk support, and secure remote printing.
