dvGarage, a QuickTime-only site dedicated to “building the next generation of visual media artists,” will be hosting three user groups over the next week and covering several areas of computer graphics on Mac OS X. Over 12 User Groups currently meet at dvGarage’s San Francisco, CA office.
Today Maya expert Lisette Titre will offer “Orc Head Modeling,” the first in a series. Titre will discuss the thought process involved in facial patch modeling, surface planning, and file set-up based on modeling an Orc Head. On the same day, Tom Meade, who also works with Maya, will have a “Start to Finish” session on visual effects and animation in Maya.
On Friday, January 24, dvGarage will host the inaugural “Kaydara Motionbuilder” User Group and show some of the internal projects being worked on at dvGarage, as well as discussing the future of the group. Motionbuilder is 3D animation software that runs on Mac OS X, Windows NT/2000 and Linux.
And on Tuesday, January 27, Mac OS X experts, John Riley and John Howard, will be on hand. Riley will speak on troubleshooting problems with Mac OS X, including what to do when you have the perpetual spinning rainbow ball, maintenance of the operating system, and freeware programs that will keep the machine up and running. Howard will look at the basics of the Terminal.
User group memberships are US$10 each, and meeting times are 7-9:30 p.m. More info can be found online.
