Promising “end-to-end” support, APC noted that its PowerChute software is Mac OS X-compatible. PowerChute Personal Edition works just fine for the Xserve, according to developer — the software provides safe system shutdown for individual Xserves that work with APC’s Smart-UPS products.
PowerChute Network Shutdown for Mac OS X is also an option. The software enables network administrators to automatically shut down multiple Xserves over a network, through a Web browser-based management interface. The software works with any APC Smart-UPS that also has APC’s Network Management Card EX installed. PowerChute Network Shutdown supports an unlimited number of Xserves, and supports custom command files to run on each Xserve in the event of a shutdown.
