The long-in-the-works Mac OS X version of Nisus Software’s Nisus Writer is could enter public beta testing in late February or early March, though the time frame is subject to change.
Nisus Writer for Mac OS X is being completely rewritten from scratch in Cocoa, the programming language for Mac OS X, according to Nisus. No release date or pricing for the final version has been determined, though there will be an upgrade price from the Classic version of Nisus Writer.
Nisus is also working on a translator that would enable translation from the Microsoft Word .doc format to Nisus Writer format and back — the translator may or may not be available in the first version of Nisus Writer for OS X.
The Mac OS X version of the word processor will have three ways of creating macros: AppleScript, Perl, and menu-based macros. Other features of the upcoming Nisus Writer include a redesigned interface; an even more powerful find and replace tool; a rewritten macro capability; Zoom in, Zoom out function; and Classic Nisus file format support.
