With Enterprise Pty Ltd has released Witango 5 for Mac OS X, its Web application engine formerly known as Tango. This release marks the first time Witango is available for Mac OS X, although the software has been shown off at trade shows and other events while still in development.

Witango 5 enables developers to create Web applications that hook to databases or external data sources. The software features a visual programming interface, and an open architecture. It’s an XML execution engine, according to the developers. Witango is broken into two major components — the Development Studio, a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool, and the Application Server itself.
Witango outputs XML files that can be executed by the Witango Server on multiple platforms, including Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris or Linux. It also supports ODBC and Oracle Call Interface (OCI), and will support Witango 5 FileMaker Server for Mac OS X once it’s released.
Since acquiring Tango 2000, With Enterprise Pty Ltd has made some major changes to Witango, including support for pre-emptive multitasking, integration with POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP, enhanced debugging, an exposed client interface that supports SOAP, XML-RPC and other direct connections, expanded error reporting, and more.
