Mac game developer and publisher Freeverse Software announced today that it’s shipping the Macintosh conversion of Payback, the recently released action game.

In Payback, you take the role of a thief. You can steal cars, assault people, take crime jobs to boost your points and your ranking in the underworld, and more. Payback plays like a version of the hit game Grand Theft Auto (the original game, not its more recent descendants), with extensive 3D physics and an advanced rendering engine too.
Payback was originally developed by Apex Designs and was published for the Mac by Virtual Programming Ltd. Virtual Programming recently began shipping the game in the UK. Freeverse has a distribution relationship with Virtual Programming; the companies have previously collaborated to bring American players games like KickOff 2002 and WipeOut 2097.
System requirements for Payback call for a G3/333MHz or faster processor, and Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X. The game is aimed at mature players only — it contains “wanton violence, animated gore, explicit language and narcotrafficking,” according to Freeverse.
More info about Payback including links to a downloadable demo version are available from Freeverse Software’s Web site. Freeverse is selling Payback for US$29.95.
