The Iconfactory and Panic have released CandyBar 1.5, an update to their Mac OS X icon customization tool. The software adds support for “iContainers,” a new way to package and distribute the icons that Panic and The Iconfactory are making for CandyBar.

iContainers include a large group of icons contained in a single file. They make it possible for CandyBar users to import and export CandyBar icon sets in one action. You can send your favorite icon settings to other CandyBar users as an iContainer e-mail attachment, for example. Icon authors can also use iContainers to keep info on themselves like name and address, to make sure they’re properly credited for their work.
Panic said it will publish the iContainer format in the future, as well, in the hopes that other icon-related software will support iContainers and CandyBar.
Other improvements to CandyBar include a new World of Aqua system replacement iContainer; an updated and expanded Smoothicon iContainer; full qualification with Apple’s as-yet-to-be-released Mac OS X 10.2.4 system update; and other bug fixes and improvements.
CandyBar 1.5 is a free upgrade for registered users. It costs US$12.95 to register CandyBar.
