Apple’s January release of QuickTime 6.1 has caused numerous problems for games and other QuickTime-dependent applications that use full-screen windows. One of those affected by the update was Mireth Technology’s MacVCD X, a Video CD player for Mac OS X. Mireth has released an update to fix the problem.

Video CDs remain a popular alternative to DVDs especially in overseas markets. An awkward file storage format and the limited storage capacity of CD-ROMs can make Video CDs unwieldy to work with, however, as they’re broken into multiple tracks often across more than one disc. MacVCD X automatically recognizes the VCD format, finds, loads and plays the movie for you.
Users with the previous version of MacVCD X and QuickTime 6.1 noted that menu titles would highlight but the menus themselves no longer appeared. This problem has been corrected in MacVCD X 4.1.6.
The new version is ready for download from Mireth’s Web site. A license for MacVCD X costs US$19.95.
