Maya was used by production companies responsible for all three films nominated for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category, according to Alias|Wavefront: Spider-Man, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
What’s more, Maya was also used in production for the Best Animated Short nominees, The ChubbChubbs! and Mike’s New Car, as well as four of the five Best Animated Feature Film nominees: Ice Age, Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Alias|Wavefront’s Oscar news doesn’t end there, either. The company noted that it would receive an Oscar for Scientific and Technical Achievement for Maya on March 1, 2003. The award will be given at the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards, which take place on March 1 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif.
The 75th annual Academy Awards takes place on March 23, 2003 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Calif.
