CocoaTech-YazSoft, the company behind such products as Speed Download, has released Path Finder 2.1, an update of the “more complete Mac OS X Finder.” The utility purportedly has all the default functionality of the standard Mac OS X Finder, as well as additional features, such as putting an Aqua user interface on Unix tools for operating on files.
Version 2.1 is up to 50 percent faster, according to YazSoft. It also adds Mac OS 9 functionality; it installs a menu in the upper right hand corner of your menu bar. From there you can view and access all your running applications. You can hide running apps or launch any other program.
Also in Path Finder 2.1, Mac OS 9 file and folder color labeling is back. Contextual menu selection has also been improved; right-click on a file or folder and you can pick from a more complete command set.
You can replace the Mac OS X Finder with Path Finder so that the CocoaTech-YazSoft software launches at startup in place of the Finder. The cost is US$35 for a single user license; site licensing is also available. Path Finder is localized in 12 different languages: English, Spanish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, and Danish.
