The Mac-only online gaming service GameRanger has, at long last, added a Premium service — a paid subscription-based service that adds features and capabilities. The service is available beginning today, for an annual fee.

Launched three years ago, GameRanger serves as a gathering point for more than 110,000 registered Mac gamers who chat with each other, join and serve multiplayer sessions for more than 100 different shareware, commercial and freeware games. The service also provides tracking abilities for popular online games based on Quake and Unreal engines, and more.
“This new Premium Service will help GameRanger to grow even more while giving major benefits back to the gamers that make up this vibrant online community,” GameRanger Technologies president Scott Kevill told MacCentral.
GameRanger service has always been free, and access to the existing service remains so, according to Kevill. Premium members gain a host of new capabilities, including unique user IDs, new personalization and appearance options, auto-reply away messages, premium-only main chat and personal chat rooms, first access to new features, and more.
“This Premium Service was designed for gamers based on the feedback I had received from them over the last three years, and they’ll be very excited with the result,” said Kevill.
GameRanger Premium service costs US$49.95 per year, or about the same cost as a new Mac game. You can read more about GameRanger Premium Membership at the link above.
