Kaydara Inc., which makes character animation and motion capture solutions, has released MotionBuilder Personal Edition (PE), a new version of the 3D animation software designed to introduce it to budding artists, 3D enthusiasts, students, and freelancers.

MotionBuilder PE is a full one-year production license of MotionBuilder; it includes printed documentation, upgrades, and customer support. The cost is US$100, a price good through July 31. MotionBuilder itself normally has a retail price of US$4,190, but is available for $895 through April 15. The PE version offers a one-year license, meaning it will expire after one year starting from the date you activate your license. Otherwise, it’s a full copy of the application with none of the functions restricted.
The software, which runs on Mac OS X, includes such features as: Automatic Character Rigging; a lip-synchronization tool that uses Kaydara’s Voice Reality phoneme-extraction technology; a Real-time Display that provides instant feedback; and a drag and drop contextual interface. MotionBuilder PE also natively supports Kaydara’s FBX file interchange format, a format for 3D data that allows users to acquire and exchange 3D assets and media from a wide variety of sources. FBX is supported by 3D content and streaming media vendors such as 2D3, Alias|Wavefront, Autodesk/Discreet, DI-O-Matic, Face2Face, Maxon, ElectricImage, InSpeck, Motek, NewTek, QEDsoft, Reflex3D, Softimage, Turbosquid, Vicon, and Viewpoint.
“With MotionBuilder PE, individuals will now have the opportunity to learn the same character animation software used by professionals without paying the price,” said Michel Besner, president of Kaydara.
