Soldier of Fortune II puts you in the role of John Mullins, a “military consultant” (read: mercenary) hired to quell a bio-terrorist threat called the Gemini Virus. You travel across several continents to stop the terrorists in their path before it’s too late. The game features 10 single-player missions and 70 levels, and multiplayer capabilities with random map generation technology.
Developed by Raven Software and published for the PC by Activision, Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix was developed for the Mac by The Omni Group and released last year. Soldier of Fortune II uses Id Software’s popular Quake III Arena game engine technology, heavily modified with Raven’s own GHOUL 2 rendering system. The game simulates 14 real-world weapons and 10 different kinds of grenades, and features detailed character animations, sound effects, and pro voice acting.
Changes in Soldier of Fortune II v1.03 include all the changes from version 1.02 and adds three new maps: Kamchatka map mp_kam5, Jordan map mp_jor1 and Shop map mp_shop2. It also rebuilds the mp_col2 map to fix a known whole. New shell art has been included, and a disappearing weapon issue has also been fixed.
What’s more, version 1.03 sports new action features, including USE and DROP ITEM, which can be bound to keys in the CONTROLS SETUP – MISC menu.
More details are available with the documentation included with the download, or by reviewing the file at Macgamefiles.com prior to downloading. The v1.03 measures 35MB and requires the full version of Soldier of Fortune II to work.
