In late spring Electric Rain Inc. plans to release Swift 3D 3.0 for Mac OS X, a standalone application designed to build and export 3D animations to Flash format, along with other vector and raster formats. It’s going to be a free upgrade for existing Swift 3D 3.0 users.

Electric Rain president Mike Soucie said that this move broadens his company’s support for the Mac market. “Swift 3D is a powerful 3D authoring tool that becomes even more compelling when paired with Mac OS X and its advanced capabilities,” said Soucie.
Swift 3D 3.0 for OS X will feature Electric Rain’s RAViX III rendering engine, which supports reflections, transparency, specularity and multiple shadows. It also features SmartLayer technology, which renders scenes to layers. The EMO Ray Tracer is also built-in, which supports bitmap texturing.
Swift 3D 3.0 is available now with a suggested retail price of US$169. In its current incarnation, Swift 3D supports Mac OS X in “Classic” mode only.
