Question:
Why doesn’t this CD work?
Answer:
This CD was developed only for Macintoshes. If you are running an Intel based computer with Microsoft Windows, then the CD will not work. If the CD fails to launch on your Macintosh, there are several things you can do to remedy the problem:
Turn on the Virtual Memory using the Memory Control Panel and set your total memory to at least 16MB. If you are using MacOS 7.5.5 or later this is the recommended solution.
To change memory allocation for a program, click once on the program’s icon to select it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and set the Preferred Size to the desired amount.
Make sure you have enough memory to open the application you wish to run. To check your available memory use the “About this Computer…” menu option under the Apple menu while in the Finder.
Quit any applications you are not current using in order to free up memory for the software on the CD-ROM.
Minimum System Requirements:
Mac OS compatible computer (with a Motorola 68040 Processor or Power PC Processor).
System 7.5 or newer.
14 inch color monitor with the capability of displaying 256 or more colors at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.
Double speed (2X) CD-ROM drive.
QuickTime (QuickTime 2.5, Sound Manager 3.2).
12 MB of free RAM. At least 20 MB of physical RAM is recommended. To see how much available RAM your computer has, choose “About this Macintosh” from the Apple Menu.

How can I get the software that was advertised as being on the CD?
Answer:
The software on the CD is described in the CD interface application. Some of the software can be installed directly from the CD interface application and some of the software needs to be installed directly from the CD. To install software from the CD (i.e., not the CD interface application) do the following:
Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive
If the window for the CD-ROM does not automatically open, then double click on the CD-ROM’s icon
Navigate to the “Software” folder in the CD-ROM’s window and double click on it
Double click on the folder of the application that you would like to install
Locate the installer for the application and double click on it

What is a browser and why do I get an alert saying that I need one?
Answer:
A browser is an application that is used to “surf the World Wide Web.” Whenever you click on something that starts with “http” or “www”, you are most likely about to access an Internet web site (if you’re viewing this FAQ on the Web right now, you probably know more than you think you do). Additionally, the buttons in the presentation that say “Web Launch” will take you directly to a web site and require that you have a browser.
Why do I get an alert that says I don’t have enough memory or “-108”?
Answer:
Your computer may not have enough memory to run the presentation AND perform installations. There are a couple ways to fix this. You can buy more RAM, or, correct the problem immediately by doing one of the following:
You can install all of the updates, shareware, and game demos without having the Macworld Graphics MegaPak presentation launched. To do so:
Quit the Macworld Graphics MegaPak presentation if you have it open
Open the CD-ROM window if it’s not already opened on your Desktop (to open it, double click on the CD-ROM icon)
Select the Software folder to navigate to the demo, or software that you would like to install.
Double-click on the application that you would like to install
You can also turn on more Virtual Memory. To do so:
Choose Control Panels from the Apple Menu item
Select the Memory Control Panel
If Virtual Memory is not already turned on (observe the radio button), then select the “On” button
Raise the amount of virtual memory in the field located on the control panel.
Close the control panel, restart your computer, and try running the presentation again.
I installed AOL and now I can’t connect to my old service provider. Why?
Answer:
It’s possible that, after installing AOL, your computer is only configured to dial into AOL. You may want to check your TCP/IP and PPP connections and note whether your original settings have been changed. If they have, you will need to manually return them to their original state or install your old provider’s software. If you are not sure whether they have changed, you should contact your service provider’s technical support group.
If you have not yet installed AOL and you currently have an Internet dial-up provider, you may want to back up your TCP/IP and PPP settings. Your TCP/IP settings can be found in the TCP/IP Control Panel located in your system folder. Simply make a copy of the control panel in order to make a backup. Depending on what version of PPP you have, your PPP connection may be in the form of a Control Panel or small application. You can locate it by performing a search for “PPP” and making a backup (same as above, by making a copy) of any PPP items found.
If you have an older Macintosh or slower CD-ROM drive, you may experience some stuttering of sound and play in the demo. This can usually be corrected by moving the movies to your hard drive and playing them from there. To do this, simply navigate to the “data” folder within the Macworld Graphics MegaPak window and open it. Copy the “intro.mov” and “playground.mov” files to your hard drive and double click on them to play them.
The AutoStart Worm is a worm that can be spread to your computer when you have an infected CD and QuickTime is set to “Autoplay” CDs. The Macworld CDs are checked for infection at three levels. They are checked by the developer, the quality assurance team, and during replication and are not distributed with viruses or worms.
If you are still concerned about using the Macworld CD, please note that it is impossible for this worm to spread to your computer if ?Autoplay? is disabled. To disable Autoplay, go to your QuickTime Control Panel and uncheck Autoplay if it is checked.
Why doesn’t the “Previous” button work in the Shareware and Updates section?
Answer:
If you have performed a search, then only a subset of the shareware and updates will be displayed. To view all of the software, click on “Find All.” This will allow you to scan through all of the software using the Previous and Next buttons.
