LAS VEGAS–Companies may come and go, but the products remain. At this year’s Comdex show, several Mac-based software packages showed up in new homes:
Corel revealed that it has acquired development, marketing, and distribution rights to Ultimatte KnockOut, a sophisticated stand-alone masking program that works with native Adobe Photoshop files. KnockOut, based on technology developed for motion-picture production, can automatically create masks of objects with irregular borders, even those fringed with fur or other hard-to-select material. Version 1 is identical to version 1 of Ultimatte KnockOut; Corel plans to release version 1.5 of the $99 program in the first half of 2000. Don’t be surprised if the program is also bundled with the company’s Photo-Paint and/or CorelDraw software.
ScanSoft, which recently acquired the rights to MetaCreations’ consumer software products, announced that it will offer all three programs–Kai’s Photo Soap, SuperGoo, and Power Show–in a single $50 package known as Photo Factory. The programs previously sold for $50 each.
