The best news out of the New York metro area this summer wasn’t the New Jersey Devils’ Stanley Cup victory. It was Apple’s decision to take its hockey puck-like mouse and send it away faster than a Claude Lemieux slap shot.
Both the mouse and the munchkin-compatible keyboard head off to well-deserved graves with the release of the Apple Pro Mouse and Apple Pro Keyboard, already shipping with Apple’s newest computers.
The Apple Pro Keyboard sports full-size function keys, audio controls, navigation keys, and a number pad. It also features a media-eject key that lets you eject CDs and DVDs without having to drag and drop desktop icons.
The Apple Pro Mouse features a more ergonomic shape and optical tracking instead of a ball. Apple trumpets the mouse as “uniquely designed to fit any hand,” due to its click-anywhere full-surface button. Optical tracking means you won’t need a mouse pad and won’t have to worry about cleaning gummy mouse balls ever again.
