4D Inc. — the U.S. distributor of 4th Dimension (4D), 4D Business Kit, and 4D WebSTAR Server Suite — has announced three new deployment options for 4D Engine 2003.
The options will be available in 4D Engine Light Edition, 4D Engine Sponsored Edition, and 4D Engine Professional Edition, when 4th Dimension 2003 is released. The new 4D Engine licenses open up deployment options for distribution “of anything you can develop,” according to 4D President-CEO Brendan Coveney.
4D Engine Light Edition and 4D Engine Sponsored Edition each include a 4D sponsorship message on application shutdown, and are designed for unlimited distribution of low-cost or in-house applications. 4D Engine Light Edition is targeted for the building of applications that require limited database functionality, or read-only database functionality. 4D Engine Sponsored Edition offers the features of the standard 4D database engine at a cost-sharing price. 4D Engine Professional Edition is for developers of professional “double-clickable” applications.
All 4D Engine 2003 editions will be available when 4th Dimension 2003 is released (though 4D Inc. hasn’t mentioned a release date). 4D Engine Light Edition is included with the 4D Developer Edition for the Mac and Windows. 4D Engine Sponsored Edition is available for US$999, which includes both Mac and Windows versions. 4D Engine Professional Edition is $2,499 and also includes support for both platforms. All the products are compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x.
