The new version of LightWave adds enhancements to the software’s scripting language, according to NewTek, and also incorporates new surface blending tools. What’s more, support for DV devices as a preview display has been added, as has a network renderer for Linux.
The enhancement adds dozens of new commands, classes and functions, and C programmers can now access LScript’s “Universal Requester” tools. This lets users customize LightWave for their production workflow in ways they couldn’t before, according to the company.
Splinamate is a new spline-control animation feature which makes it easier to animate objects like hoses and tentacles. You can define how many control points the spline will have and how “stretchy” the object will be. SurfMixer is a new surface blending shader available from the Surface Editor, which you can use to blend surface characteristics of two or more existing objects.
LightWave 3D 7.5b is a free update for existing 7.5 users. The full package carries a suggested retail price of US$1,595. More details are available online.
