Carrara Studio is a US$399 3D application for modeling, animation, rendering, and special effects. It runs on Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.1-9.1. Carrara 3D Basics is the $99 “lite” version of Studio and sports the same system requirements.
Power Pack offers the ability to add fur, hair, and similar strands to characters and models, add depth to objects with displacement mapping, or add a starry background to 3D night scenes. Or you can use the new shading functions to concoct your own collection of original textures, according to Antoine Clappier, CEO of Eovia.
The plug-ins include: Anything Grows (which adds fur and hair to objects and models created in Carrara Studio), Anything Grooves (which provides displacement mapping and works with existing shaders); StarBright (which creates a background that wraps your scene in a globe covered with stars); Shader Ops (a collection of 11 shader operators that add functionality to existing Carrara shaders). Power Pack also includes a full version of WebXport 2, the VETT (Viewpoint Experience Technology) plug-in for Carrara Studio 2 for publishing textured and animated 3D scenes on the Web.
The English/international version of Power Pack has a suggested retail price of US$99. It’s compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.1-9.1. However, through March 31, Eovia is selling it for $89.
