MySQL AB, makers of the popular open source database MySQL, announced with Pearson VUE a new MySQL certification program. The program aims to make sure that software developers who create products with MySQL can acquire formal credentials to validate their knowledge. MySQL is available for various platforms, including OS X.

The program is starting with the “MySQL Core Certification,” which demonstrates proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL), data entry and maintenance, data extraction for reporting and other abilities.
The “MySQL Professional Certification” is coming later this year, and it helps certify users in MySQL database management, installation, security, disaster prevention and optimization. Core certification is a prerequisite, according to the companies.
Coming by the end of the year is the MySQL PHP Certification. This will certify MySQL and PHP developers. What’s more, a MySQL DBA Certification will be offered in 2004.
Certifications are being offered specifically through Pearson VUE Testing Centers — a global network of more than 3,500 professional testing centers located in more than 130 countries. The fee for taking the Core Certification exam is $150.
