Marathon Computer today introduced the R-Console. The system turns an existing flat-panel display into a slide-rail mounted “command center” for rack-mounted equipment, completed with keyboard and touchpad.

Marathon production coordinator David Soch explained that the R-Console was developed for users who already own flat panel displays but don’t have any way to mount them in equipment racks efficiently. “The R-Console comes with our popular USB keyboard/trackpad combination pre-installed,” said Soch.
The R-Console supports almost any 15 inch flat-panel monitor, according to Marathon — uit should work with any display 15 inches or less in total width that adheres to the 75mm or 100mm VESA wallmount standard. And if you’re looking for rackmount solutions specifically for Apple displays, Marathon has several to choose from.
The R-Console occupies 2U of vertical rack space. It’s made out of aircraft-grade aluminum and includes a Mac-compatible Marathon USB R-Keyboard, which sports a built-in touchpad. The slides use ball bearings for smooth motion, and the apparatus stays in place with two spring-mounted thumbscrews when not in use.
Item number MON-744, the R-Console is available immediately for US$499.
