Contraband Entertainment adds new Mac projects
Contraband Entertainment, the porting company most recently known to Mac users for its conversion of Heroes of Might & Magic IV, is working on a couple of Mac game conversions for Monkeystone Games called Hyperspace Delivery Boy and Congo Cube. Visit Contraband’s Web site for more details.
Escape Velocity 1.0.4 released
Ambrosia Software has released an update to their space-based role-playing action game, Escape Velocity Nova. The new version, 1.0.4, sports some changes to the core engine and a multitude of scenario tweaks, too.
Snap! released for free
Phelios has released Snap!, a colored block-matching game, for free. Visit their Web site for the 2.7MB download.
Virtual Grand Prix 2 demo 1.2 update posted
An updated demo version of Virtual Programming Ltd.’s forthcoming racing game Virtual Grand Prix 2 has been posted to Macgamefiles.com. The new version gains Full Scene Anti Aliasing (FSAA) on video cards that support the feature, along with environment mapping.
WarBirds Pacific Theater of Operations goes open beta
iEntertainment Network has posted an open beta Mac version of WarBirds Pacific Theater of Operations, an expansion of the online World War II-era aircraft dogfighting game that brings the action to the Pacific — new aircraft, new terrain, new graphics and more.
Westlake Interactive updates project status page
Famed Mac game conversion studio Westlake Interactive has updated their project status Web page with details on their works in progress. The company has added a new secret project called “Renee,” that appears bound for Mac OS X only. Also in development is “Zoot Suit,” now in Alpha, and “Cellar,” another OS X-only game in beta.

Inside Mac Games has posted a preview of Uplink, the forthcoming Ambrosia-made Mac conversion of the hacker game. MacGamer has, inexplicably, posted a review of Konfabulator, a product that enables Mac OS X users to utilize JavaScript ‘widgets.’ Apple’s Games site has posted a preview of Shadowbane, the forthcoming strategy-based massively multiplayer online role playing game from Ubi Soft Entertainment. MacMOHAA has been updated with new content related to Medal of Honor.
Closer to home
MacCentral brought readers news of BloodRayne’s announcement for the Mac. Nvidia announced its GeForce FX Go mobile graphics processor, and ATI announces its Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics processor. MacSoft announced that Master of Orion III has gone gold master and will be released on March 25. Aspyr has posted an update to Medal of Honor that adds support for dual-processor systems and more. Inside Mac Games is hosting a survey to help game publishers determine what their system requirements should be. MacPlay has published the Super GameHouse Collection for casual gamers. Blizzard Entertainment has expanded its Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne beta test by 10,000 users. Virtual Programming has also released a demo of its Player Manager 2003 soccer management game.
