today announced that it’s shipping 4th Dimension 2003, the latest major upgrade to its relational database management system and rapid application development environment. 4D 2003 was introduced at Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco this past January.

The new version of 4th Dimension sports integrated standards-based Web services for client and server alike, with support for XML, SOAP and WSDL. The software supports import and export via XML and programmatic XML parsing. A new Web Services Set-up Wizard makes it easier for developers to integrate their content for the Web, as well.
4D Inc. president and CEO Brendan Coveney explained that 4th Dimension 2003 requires no recoding to use use Web Services. “Whether you’re an end-user
aiming to streamline business processes while saving costs, or a developer seeking greater productivity and more versatility, 4th Dimension 2003 will meet your needs with power and efficiency,” said Coveney.
Other changes designed to make programmers’ lives easier include a new method editor and integrated compiler, which compiles code 50 percent faster, according to 4D. 4th Dimension 2003 also gains new printing and reporting features, including cross-tab and list reports.
