Star Proof is made for large format inkjets and color proofers. It uses techniques for producing hard dots on the proofer to recreate the actual dot patterns and rosettes of the original separations.
Version 3.2 incorporates a new resampling engine, Actual Dot 2, which halves print times when producing screened proofs up to 200lpi, according to Compose. Actual Dot 2 analyzes the dot patterns of original screened separations and reproduces them at proofing printer resolutions. Star Proof has also been tuned to take advantage of Epson VSDT-capable printers such as the Stylus Pro 10600. Version 3.2, with Actual Dot 2, can purportedly produce contract quality proofs up to 200lpi on printers running at 1440 lpi by 720 lpi.
Compose has also announced the first release of Star Proof Remote Print Station, which enables simultaneous proofing on multiple remote or local printers. Star Proof Remote Print Station is a dedicated FTP server with broadband connectivity running on Mac OS X. Taking print files via Internet from a remote or local Star Proof station, Remote Print Station decompresses the incoming proofs before delivering them to its local proofing printer.
