Other World Computing (OWC) today introduced FasterMac.net, a Mac-only Internet service provider that offers 56K dialup service throughout the United States. The service builds on experience gained with OWC.NET, the company’s Chicago-area Internet service provider.

OWC founder and president Larry O’Connor said that FasterMac.net can provide more reliable service and better tech support to Mac users than the competition. “Our FasterMac.net sales and technical teams can configure Mac computers for the most optimum connection speeds and solve user problems faster than other Internet service providers (ISPs) because our team is Mac-centric while most other ISPs are PC-centric,” he said.
FasterMac.net carries with it a month-to-month subscription fee of US$12.95, $35.96 quarterly (reducing charges to $11.99 per month), or annually for $119 (or $9.92 per month). Each plan includes 150 hours of connection time, five free e-mail addresses at the FasterMac.net domain, and 5MB of free Web space.
FasterMac.net uses a nationwide network of 56K v.90/v.92 dialup locations. The service doesn’t depend on third-party software, according to OWC, and for customers concerned about spam, the company promises it won’t use any personal information given by its subscribers for anything other than account maintenance.
