HELIOS Software GmbH has updated several of its products, including PrintPreview, ImageServer, and PDF Handshake, all of which are tailored to high-end publishing environments.

HELIOS PrintPreview 2.0, the latest version of the tool for checking print jobs prior to final output, creates previews, even of failed PostScript print jobs. It also offers: PostScript Level 1, 2 or 3 emulation; PostScript 3 Device support; PostScript 3 shading support; ore PostScript Level 2/PostScript 3 support; faster rendering; and more compatibility with TrueType, Type 42, and Type 0 fonts.
Print Preview 2.0 requires Mac OS X 10.2 or Mac OS X Server 10.2 and EtherShare 3.1. PCShare 3.1 is optional, but recommended.
HELIOS ImageServer, a server-based image replacement solution, has been revved to version 2.5. The update adds: 64-bit large file support; ICC-rendering intent settings via EtherShare Admin (for rendering an image file from one color space to another); application clipping path (EtherShare Admin); additional channel support (EtherShare Admin); OPI file changed event notifications; custom color tinting for in-RIP separation (with QuarkXPress); optimized image conversion tools; a script server that automates tasks via hot folder Perl/shell scripts (no polling); layout batch image conversion features; and a HELIOS OPI Tune Up extension for QuarkXPress 5 (on both Mac and Windows); and more.
HELIOS EtherShare OPI requires Mac OS X 10.2 or Mac OS X Server 10.2, EtherShare 3.1, and a Mac, Windows, or UNIX workstation to place and print OPI layout images to the HELIOS spooler. You’ll also need: a non-OPI-compatible software that can place and print EPS files; an OPI-compatible application such as QuarkXPress, PageMaker, Freehand, InDesign, or Ragtime. PDF HandShake is optional to support PDFs for conversion and OPI, and PrintPreview is optional for print jobs.
PDF Handshake has been updated to version 2.1. PDF Handshake printing offers correct PDF printing of separations and composite PDF documents on any PostScript compatible output device. It includes ColorSync/ICC color management and proof simulation support.
Version 2.1 adds PDF 1.3 “shading support” compatibility and In-RIP separation for “pdfprint” and “PDF Internet Printing.” It requires Mac OS X 10.2 or Mac OS X Server 10.2 and EtherShare 3.1. Acrobat Reader is needed to print PDF document. A Mac with Create PDF Server must have the Acrobat Distiller 4.0.5 or 5. PDF Internet Printing requires a working Apache Web server with Perl. HELIOS ImageServer is optional for OPI and imposition features. And PrintPreview is optional for a bitmap preview of PDF print jobs.
