Orange Micro Inc. announced plans to release its OrangeCombo Notebook Card. The new laptop expansion card — compatible with the PC Card slots on PowerBooks and Windows laptops — supports both FireWire and USB 2.0. What’s more, it’s available with Mac OS X drivers.

The OrangeCombo includes two USB 2.0 ports, one 6 pin FireWire port, like what’s found on a Mac, and one four pin FireWire port as well. All of the ports can be used simultaneously. The card comes with a power supply, as well, providing 500 mA of power per port for USB peripherals that need it, like optical mice or bus-powered hard drives.
The OrangeCombo Notebook Card requires Mac OS X 10.2 or higher and an available 32 bit Type II Cardbus slot. PowerBook G3 series laptops (excluding the original PowerBook G3 M-3553 model) and higher are supported. In addition to Mac OS X drivers, the card ships with both Mac and Windows software — the Mac software is BTV Pro, a digital video editing application.
The OrangeCombo Notebook Card carries a suggested retail price of US$119 and will ship in April, according to Orange Micro.
