If you have an older Mac that needs a FireWire interface, or a FireWire-equipped Power Mac that needs even more FireWire jacks than it already has, you may be interested in Sonnet Technologies Inc.’s latest announcement: The Allegro FW400 FireWire PCI adapter card. The card has three six-pin FireWire 400 ports.
Sonnet makes a variety of expansion options for older and newer Macs, ranging from processor upgrades, PCI adapter cards with FireWire and USB, ATA for additional internal storage, RAID, and more. They also make key-sized USB flash storage peripherals.
The FW400 is compatible with Mac OS 9.0 or higher and works with a variety of Mac systems equipped with PCI expansion slots, ranging from legacy Apple systems and clones that didn’t ship with FireWire installed straight up to the latest Power Mac configurations. It’s also compatible with Windows 98SE or higher.
Sonnet expects to start shipping the Allegro FW400 card by the end of the month. It carries a suggested retail price of US$39.95.
