Destineer subsidiary MacSoft has announced that it’s now shipping Master of Orion III, the long-awaited space strategy game developed by Quicksilver Software. According to MacSoft, Mac gamers should be able to find the game on store shelves starting today.
Master of Orion III began shipping for the PC in February — published by Infogrames, MacSoft’s former owner. The PC version is already selling well, according to MacSoft general manager Al Schilling. “We’re also thrilled to see this same level of excitement for the Mac version, as one of the best games ever available for the Macintosh gets its long-awaited sequel.”
Master of Orion III puts you in control of a spacefaring civilization as you use your galactic might in a quest to become the actual Master of Orion. To that end, you’ll wage war with your opponents, use subterfuge and diplomacy, and other strategies along the way. It’s a turn-based strategy game that features real-time space battles featuring fleets of spaceships. You control how technology is researched and how your ships are designed and armed, and you’ll interact with 16 different alien races.
The game features an extensive single player campaign and multiplayer modes as well — Master of Orion III features Internet or LAN-based plan for up to 8 players simultaneously, and its networking support is cross-platform compatible.
System requirements call for a G3/350MHz or faster, 128MB RAM (256MB recommended), Mac OS 9.1 or higher (or Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher), 800×600 resolution with thousands of colors, and 400MB of hard drive space.
