Macs will be supported as clients under Merant Collage 4.0, a tool built to let organizations design, create, deploy, and maintain the code and content of their Internet, extranet and intranet efforts. The latest version will also beef up support for Oracle9i Database, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Linux servers.
Targeted to business users, Web site administrators, Web project managers, and IT services, Merant Collage has an open, standards-based J2EE architecture and is browser-based. The product allows direct content creation and contribution, workflow and task management, adherence to corporate style guidelines, and more.
Merant Collage 4.0 provides automated task management and workflow control, site import capabilities, templating, and master page design, WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) content editing, integrations with applications such as Microsoft Office and Macromedia Dreamweaver, version management, and granular security and permissions down to the asset level. The new version is due in late April; pricing hasn’t yet been announced.
