ArchiCAD 8 Student Version, an academic version of the 3D model-based architectural CAD software, is now available in the U.S. from Graphisoft resellers.
ArchiCAD 8 was announced last July and added Mac OS X compatibility. The Student Version is designed to let students and instructors create a building information model that captures design information — including floor plans, sections, elevations, 3D models, and more — in a central database. Any revisions made to the building design is reflected in all views of the model.
According to Graphisoft, ArchiCAD 8 Student Version boasts a streamlined interface, faster navigation speed, and enhanced design capabilities including: new detailing features; the use of Boolean Geometry for sculpting of building elements; and new build-in “sketch rendering” and photo-rendering capabilities.
ArchiCAD 8 Student Version is compatible with Mac OS 9.2.2, as well as Mac OS X (10.1 and higher). Note that the student version can open the project files saved by the full (non-student) version, but not vice versa. Unfortunately, Graphisoft hasn’t listed pricing. You’ll have to contact an ArchiCAD reseller for details.
