Microsoft Corp. today released Office 2001 Service Release 1, an update for its Office 2001 productivity software suite for the Macintosh. The update is ready for download from Microsoft’s Web site now.
Office 2001 itself is comprised of four major components: Word, a word processing application; Excel, a spreadsheet program; Entourage, a contact management and e-mail client; and PowerPoint, a presentation application. The software is a mainstay for corporations and other businesses, and offers cross-platform compatibility with Windows-based Office software as well.
According to Microsoft, the service release is not a required upgrade for Office 2001 users, but it is recommended. The software “provides continued compatibility and support for users of Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS X in the Classic environment,” according to Microsoft.
Changes in the service release include the following:
In order to use the service release, you’ll need to have the full version of Microsoft Office installed on your Mac. Microsoft recommends that Mac OS X users operate the updater in Mac OS 9.1 instead. Separate service release packs have been created for English and Japanese versions of Office 2001; please visit the Web site at the link below for more info.
