Formac dropped the price of its DVD-RAM drive from US$599 to $549. It’s an external FireWire-based DVD-RAM drive that can store up to 9.4GB of data on removable cartridges. Encased in a graphite design, the DVD-RAM sports read support for various DVD and CD formats. The drive also runs bus-powered on Power Mac G3 and G4s, requiring no external power supply.
Formac has also dropped the price of its 12x/10x/32x CD-RW drive from $329 to $279. The CD-RW drive is also FireWire-based and sports BURNproof buffer underrun protection, as well. It is also enclosed in a graphite-style case. Formac bundles Adaptec/Roxio Toast 4.1.1 with the CD-RW drive.
If you’re planning on using your Formac DVD-RAM or CD-RW drive with a Mac that doesn’t support FireWire bus power, you may want to pick up the optional external power supply for US$24. More info on the drives is available from Formac’s Web site.
