Thoth, a US$25 Usenet newsreader application, has been Carbonized for Mac OS X. Besides OS X compatibility, the update (which can run under OS 8.5 and later) adds translator files that allow Thoth to display and post messages in various non-Roman languages.
Thoth’s features include automatic viewing of downloaded images; binary posting; flexible article filtering (kill files) and sorting; reference-based article threading (with a view of the thread available while you’re reading posts); a multi-threaded connection to the news server (you can have up to four connections); filtering with regex support; multiple character set support for both reading and posting in non-English language and non-Latin alphabet newsgroups; integrated support for multiple news servers; and more. It can be used both as an online and offline newsreader.
You can download the newsreader or a demo version at the Thoth Web site; it’s a 1.7MB file. Thoth requires Mac OS 8.5 or later CarbonLib 1.0.4 or later or Mac OS X (10.0 final).
