Many folks think of Apple as a “small” computer company. Wrong.
It’s small when compared to the entire bunch of firms that make Wintel systems. But of the regular, standard 500 largest companies in the Fortune 500 list, Apple comes in at number 236.
That, according to the 2001 list, makes Apple bigger than Pepsi, NBMA, Corning, Chubb, Rockwell, Charles Schwab, Kellogg, AOL, Unisys, NCR, Nextel, Southwest Airlines, B.F.Goodrich, Litton Industries, 3Com, LTV, ITT Industries, AMD, Black & Decker, Pitney Bowes, Brunswick, McGraw-Hill, Mutual of Omaha, Maytag, Bethlehem Steel, Barnes & Noble, FMC, TWA, New York Times, Hilton Hotels, Qualcomm, ACE Hardware, Ralston-Purina, Coors, Silicon Graphics, Borden, Polariod, Dun & Bradstreet, Dow Jones, Tiffany, and more.
