WebSTAR Server Suite 4.4 is now available from 4D Inc., and for a limited time, it will be bundled with Adobe GoLive 5.0 software. WebSTAR Server Suite 4.4 features 4th Dimension relational database integration, a customizable Web interface for WebSTAR Mail, and built-in FlexMail support for form processing.
WebSTAR Server Suite is being bundled with Adobe GoLive 5.0 software to provide businesses with a complete Web development package that includes a “powerful Web server with one of the industry’s top Web design tools,” according to Brendan Coveney, president and CEO of 4D. This offers customers an “all-inclusive package,” making it easy to get a fully functional custom Web site up and running, he added.
WebSTAR Server Suite 4.4 bundled with Adobe GoLive 5.0 will cost US$399. Upgrades from WebSTAR Server Suite 4.x are free. However, this doesn’t include the WebSTAR Server software bundle, and the upgrade to version 4.4 is only available via download. Upgrades from WebSTAR Server Suite 3.x to the 4.4/GoLive bundle are $199. For more information on WebSTAR Server Suite 4.4 go to the WebSTAR Web site.
The WebSTAR Server Suite features Web, FTP, Mail and Proxy servers integrated in a modular application, with secure, IP-based remote administration.
WebSTAR Server Suite V for Mac OS X is in the planning stages. Tentatively due this spring, the product will be far faster than WebSTAR 4 running on Mac OS 9 because it will take full advantage of the new BSD socket network API and preemptive threading, resulting in a tremendous speed boost, according to Coveney. And since Mac OS X will be much more stable than Mac OS 9, a crashing CGI will not result in a crashed server. 4D WebSTAR V will also have new features, he added.
