LaCie has a new entry into its line of PocketDrives, their itsy bitsy drives of various flavors. The newest one is the 8x4x32x LaCie PocketCD-RW, which the company says is the first such device with both FireWire and USB support. It has two FireWire ports so it can be daisy-chained with other FireWire devices.
The 8x4x32x LaCie PocketCD-RW is a six by six inch CD-RW that offers twice the write speed of the original PocketDrive CD-RW. The drive automatically detects the system interface and configures the connection, so the drives mount as soon as they are connected, according to Guillaume Mazieres, LaCie’s vice president of marketing & sales.
The LaCie PocketCD-RW writes at 8X speed, enabling users to burn a full 650 MB CD-R or CD-RW disc in less than 10 minutes, he added. The drive will also read all industry standard CDs at 32 X speed.
The 8x4x32x LaCie PocketCD-RW drive has a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$399. It comes with the necessary cables, a universal A/C adapter, three 80-minute CD-R discs, and LaCie Recording Utilities. The latter offers software on a single CD-ROM for both Mac and Wintel systems, including Adaptec Toast 4.1.2 for Macs.
