Connectivity product maker Asante Technologies Inc. says that the future of the Internet is Ethernet. They’re developing a strategic plan to “win the loyalty of network providers” in the multi-tenant unit, or MTU, marketplace.
MTU is a growing market — one recent market analysis showed that it’s going to grow from US$371 million last year to $2 billion by 2004. MTU networks provide broadband Internet access to apartment buildings, hotels, and businesses in commercial office buildings. Asante and other companies expect that Internet providers will continue to grow their MTU business by providing the LAN infrastructure for entire buildings, rather than just specific tenants. Asante’s hope is that its IntraCore switches will be a key product for these service providers.
“We believe Ethernet will eventually dominate the Internet market,” commented Wilson Wong, Asante’s CEO and President. “Our system engineers are working with key customers to bring affordable Ethernet solutions to the MTU marketplace.”
