ATTO Technology, a provider of Mac SCSI and Fibre Channel solutions, is debuting the ATTO ExpressStripe for Mac OS X RAID software package at this week’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas.
ExpressStripe for Mac OS X lets users create and manage standard and RAID 0 volumes for external and internal SCSI storage and provides added functionality for content creation users. The application will combine the look and feel of Apple’s new operating system with the ease-of-use of ATTO’s long-standing ATTO ExpressRAID, according to Timothy Klein, ATTO President & CEO. ExpressRAID and ATTO’s complete line of SCSI host adapters are fully compatible with Mac OS X.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the debut of ATTO ExpressStripe for Mac OS X in conjunction with Apple’s release of their much-anticipated Mac OS X operating system,” Klein said in a statement. “This application is the first RAID product on the market to support Apple’s Mac OS X operating system.”
ATTO has also begun shipping their upgraded ATTO AccelWare 3.0, dual platform SAN Volume Management Software. The new AccelWare boasts more powerful administrative and security features enabling greater ease and efficiency in sharing common files among multiple users within a Storage Area Network (SAN), according to Klein.
AccelWare is a dual platform solution, allowing both Mac and Windows NT users to share common HFS/HFS+ storage volumes. ATTO AccelWare is a key component of ATTO’s end-to-end workgroup SAN (Storage Area Network) solution that includes ATTO ExpressPCI FC host adapters, ATTO FibreCenter 1100D hub, and ATTO FibreBridge Fibre Channel-to-SCSI bridge.
Finally, the company is featuring the ATTO ExpressPCI FC 3300 and the 3305, two new 2GB, 64-bit PCI to Fibre Channel host bus adapters, at NAB. The 3300 is configured with a Short Wave optical LC SFF Fibre Channel interface while the 3305 offers a fixed copper HSSDC Fibre Channel interface, which allows for high-speed copper connection. The adapters were specifically designed to meet the demanding throughput needs of server and SAN environments.
These PCI-to-Fibre Channel host adapters support 2-Gigabit performance, allowing data to be moved at 400MB per second in full duplex mode. With a complete driver set, support for arbitrated loop, point-to-point and direct fabric/switch attach, and development under strict adherence to ANSI FC-AL, FC-PLDA and FC-FLA specifications, they provide speed for an unprecedented number of configurations, according to Peter Donnelly, ATTO Fibre Channel Host Adapter product manager.
