The just-released Download Deputy Turbo 4.5, an update of Ilesa Software’s Internet download manager, represents a “stabilization of features and a major stepping stone to the release of a native Mac OS X version,” Ilesa CEO and president, Mallory Paine, said. The update also boasts new acceleration features that “collectively make it the fastest Macintosh download manager, bar none,” he added.
Download Deputy Turbo is a download accelerator and manager combined into one utility. You can have an unlimited number of queue windows open and downloading simultaneously, according to MacTech magazine. And it requires only 875k of RAM (but prefers 1.5MB). You can schedule each queue to automatically download whenever you want and can set the number of simultaneous downloads in each window.
Besides some performance enhancements and bug fixes, Paine said Download Deputy Turbo 4.5’s new Multiple Connection Transfer Engine (MCTE) allows for accelerated download speeds for users with Cable, DSL, Ethernet, LAN, or other high-speed Internet connections. He added that the update also packs MaxMyBandwidth.
This technology was invented here,” he added. “Download Deputy Turbo is the first piece of software to use this technology. In a nutshell, Download Deputy Turbo speeds up the transfer of your files by ensuring that your Internet connection is always saturated.”
As of version 4.5, Download Deputy Turbo loads your proxy settings from the Internet control panel and properly supports both HTTP and FTP proxies. No configuration is necessary. The utility also now supports URLs of any length, whereas previous versions were limited to URLs of 256 or fewer characters. There’s also a new “Sleep” feature to Post-Download options and a new Scheduler with three different schedule types.
Download Deputy Turbo is US$24. A fully function trial version is available free from the Ilesa Software Web site. Version 4.2 is a $12 upgrade to registered users of version 3.x. System requirements are any Mac running Mac System 8.5 or later, Appearance Manager 1.02, 1000k RAM, and 500k disk space.
